THE CHALLENGE
Load Shedding and a General Power Shortage
In Midstream, Centurion, our client faced significant challenges due to frequent load shedding and a general power shortage in the area. The primary goal was to establish a system that could enable their equipment to operate completely off-grid, utilizing solar power generation. The system needed to charge a battery during peak solar hours and switch to battery power during the late hours of the day when solar energy was not available.
THE SOLUTION
Development of a Comprehensive Control System for the Cutting-edge Hybrid Energy System.
We implemented a hybrid solar generation and system control solution, designed to cater to the unique power generation and supply needs of the client.
This system comprised several key components:
- Solar Panels: The backbone of the system, these panels were responsible for harnessing solar energy, particularly during peak sunlight hours.
- Junction Box with Protection Devices: This essential component ensured the safe distribution of power from the solar panels, protecting the system against potential electrical issues.
- Inverter: The inverter played a dual role. Firstly, it converted the DC power generated by the solar panels into AC power, suitable for running the client’s facilities. Simultaneously, it was responsible for charging the battery system.
- Battery System: Serving as a critical backup power source, the battery system was utilized when solar energy was insufficient, such as during late hours or periods of load shedding.
This hybrid system effectively allowed the client’s operations in Midstream, Centurion, to become sustainable and independent of the municipal power grid. The reliance on solar energy significantly reduced electricity bills, while the battery backup system provided a reliable and continuous power source during load shedding. This case study illustrates the effectiveness of hybrid solar systems in offering efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly energy solutions.
